Welcome Amish Starter is a much sought after base for Amish Friendship Bread. This site is dedicated to those who love to bake, and enjoy using Amish Starter. We also have a team of ladies who want to share their starter with anyone who wants to venture into this fun community of Amish Bread. Using starter to bake has been a tradition for many many generations. Starter is easy to maintain and can be created without refrigeration, which makes it an appealing survival practice. Learning to use natural fermentation has been a wonderful experience for me. Did you know that having starter in your kitchen is a good way to propagate your kitchen with good enzymes and bacteria. I have stored my starter on my counter in a Tupperware One Touch Canister for months, it has never molded, never gone bad and never rotted. The reason starter is always good is beause of the good enzymes that are naturally created during the fermentation process. These good enzymes kill the bad enzymes so they can not grow in your starter. Do things in your house mold easily? Start a starter for a healthier enviroment. I also started a Sour Dough starter that stays in my fridge loosely covered, I noticed that food is naturally preserved longer in my fridge because there are less icky bacteria. The good bacteria and enzymes in my starter is killing off the overpopulation of bad bacteria and enzymes in my fridge. Little did we know, grandma was ahead of the rest of because she baked home-made bread and always had starter around. Not only is starter healthier, but the tradition is great to pass on to your children. Baking the bread is so easy, and doesnt take much time. The memories and tradition that are shared with your children will be remembered for a lifetime. On a journey... from never baking a thing, to baking everything from scratch, at home, in my own clean, well balanced kitchen. Won't you join me in this effort to bring tradition back to our kitchen? |
