Feeding Your Amish Starter I have found 2 different methods of feeding your starter, both will product bread, but if you feel overwhelmed with baking every 10 days, you can create less starter by using smaller portions of the ingredients. With all the wonderful recipes availabe, I have not come to the point where I want less starter, I want MORE. My family dreads the 10 days between loaves. They love, love, love the friendship bread. But if you have a smaller family and less time, you might want to try the reduced starter recipe. To Feed Your Starter Normally Feeding Amish Starter To Create Less Starter Printer Friendly VersionThis will make 50% more on baking day, and leave you with none to give away. Day 1 - 5 stir the starter 4 eggs
1 1/2 cups oil (or use 1/2 oil and 1/2 applesauce)
3/4 cup milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
3 cups flour
1 large box of instant vanilla pudding.
This will make three smaller loaves, two large loaves, or muffins. Grease bottom of pans and sprinkle with sugar & cinnamon. Pour batter into pans and sprinkle e top with sugar & cinnamon. Bake at 325 for about 45 min for bread loaves, 20 minutes for muffins, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 mins. |
